Course Description

The NC3 Precision Measuring Course is designed to equip learners with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to use precision measuring instruments accurately and reliably in industrial, manufacturing, and laboratory environments.

Core Focus
These courses cover the principles of precision measurement, including accuracy, precision, resolution, and repeatability, and their importance in quality control. They teach the proper use, calibration, and maintenance of a range of tools such as:

  • Calipers: Vernier, digital, and dial calipers

  • Micrometers: External, internal, and depth micrometers

  • Gages: Thickness gages, plug gages, ring gages

  • Indicators: Dial, electronic, and bore gages

  • Height gages and surface measurement tools like roughness testers and profilometers.

Key Topics

  • Fundamentals of direct and indirect measurements, accuracy vs. error.

  • Operating principles and procedures for each instrument

  • Calibration techniques and common standards

  • Measurement techniques for inside diameter, outside diameter, roundness, surface finish, length, and depth.

  • Data interpretation and statistical analysis (mean, standard deviation, control charts)

  • Troubleshooting common measurement issues

  • Industry standards and compliance requirements.
