0030 - Handgun Safety Course

Course Description

The class will consist of 2 days of training. Day 1 will be in a classroom and Day 2 will be on the firing range. 

Day 1- Classroom instruction, will cover important safety rules for firearm handling. The laws pertaining to when and where a person can carry a weapon will be included. Students will participate in practical demonstrations in the classroom.

Day 2- Target Shooting Instruction will take place at the Rabun County Firing Range for Instruction. All range rules and live fire exercises will be covered. The instructor will teach proper sight alignment, stance, breathing, grip and trigger pull. Anyone under the age of 21 must be accompanied by an adult. Waivers will be provided for participants to sign prior to the live fire exercise.

The instructor, Mark Gerrells, has been a police trainer for over 30 years specializing in firearms, SWAT and sniper instruction and is the current Rabun County Sherriff.
